The World Cup in hockey was also a victim of the coronavirus

The coronavirus epidemic will also delay the elite World Cup, the International Hockey Federation said. It has already been announced that the Division II and III World Cups will lag behind all ages, as will the Women's Elite World Championships, of which the Hungarian national team would have been a member for the first time in its history.

The association announced on Tuesday that the Division I tournaments will not be held, so the Hungarian men's team will not take part in the I / A tournament in Ljubljana from April 27 to May 3, in which the South Korean, Austrian, he would have met with the French, the host Slovenian and the Romanian team.

The World Cups have been held since 1920, and for a long time in the years of the Winter Olympics, the tournament of the five-ring games was considered a world championship. Due to World War II, no World Cup was held between 1940 and 1946. Later, in 1980, 1984 and 1988, no World Cup was held in the Olympic year, and the Olympic gold medalist could not consider himself a world champion. Thus, the last time the World Cup had to be canceled was in 1946, ie the IIHF was forced to take such a step 74 years ago.

Prior to the current cancellation, the last time the World Cup was missed was in 1946, when the national teams were not ready for the tournament due to the Second World War.

All over the world, national championships have stopped in a row in recent weeks, training has not been possible, in many places even ice rinks have been thawed in Europe, only the Russian-based KHL is playing in the strong leagues - the game is officially open until April 10, but NHL struggles are paused.
