LeBron James has been named the best male athlete of the past decade by the AP American News Agency.
James, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Monday, has won the North American Professional Basketball League (NBA) three times with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers over the last ten years, and has been selected as the most valuable player in the final three times. He won the championship three more times (MVP) three times and won an Olympic gold medal in 2012 with the United States national team. He is currently with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Tom Brady was second in the AP vote for New England Patriots' American football team. Jamaican eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt finished third, fourth overall was FC Barcelona Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, and fifth was Michael Phelps, an American 23-time Olympic swimmer.
Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, was selected as the best female athlete of the decade.
