Olympics - The IOC president says there will be no countries left behind

Thomas Bach, chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said he did not count on countries absent from the coronavirus epidemic at the Tokyo Five-Ring Games and Paralympics postponed to next year.

The German sports leader said this in an Instagram conversation he had with his compatriot, javelin thrower Johannes Vetter, the insidethegames.biz portal wrote.

Bach added that all athletes can participate in the Olympics, including those who come from a country with a high number of infected people.

“Competitors are not responsible for the virus,” the IOC president said, adding that if their test is negative and safety standards are met, they have the right to start.

"I don't expect countries to stay away either. All 206 Olympic committees under the auspices of the IOC are committed to the settlement and are looking forward to the start," Thomas Bach said.

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have been postponed for a year due to the pandemic, with the new date being July 8-August 8, 2021, and the latter August 24-September 5. Organizers are now working to create different "virus-compliant" scenarios for the event. connection.
