The British pilot of SMP Racing said on Friday that he was back because his partner was pregnant and would like to spend more time with him in Le Mans two weeks before the long-term race.
"The decision made it easier for me to feel that Toyota is currently unbeatable," he added. After six races, Toyota will lead the race with 151 points before the end of the season, and SMP Racing will be ranked third with 71 points. Button started in two races: fourth in Japan, third in China.
In France, he will be replaced by another former Formula 1 pilot, Stoffel Vandoorne.
