Hamilton and Rosberg could clash again

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg could clash again, albeit this time no longer in the racing circus, but in the electric off-road championship called Extreme E next year, and not as pilots, but now as owners.

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, former teammates of Formula One Mercedes, will be the rivals in the next-year electric SUV Championship called Extreme E.

The first World Championship F1 German driver, who has already retired in 2016, announced on Thursday that he will launch a stable in the series called Rosberg Xtreme Racing (RXR). The organizers of Extreme E announced in September that Hamilton, which is driving to their seventh Formula One World Championship title this year, will be listed as X44.

Rosberg is a shareholder in Formula E, which organizes urban electric car races, and is the founder of both series, Alejandro Agag.

“We’ve been talking about this project for many months now, I’m really glad Nico has chosen this way to return to motorsport,” Agag said of Rosberg. Hamilton will not be involved in day-to-day tasks, but the German, as founder and CEO, will oversee the work at his barn under the direction of Kimmo Liimatainen.

“Since my retirement, I have been working on renewable energy technologies, and this series provides a great opportunity not only to compete but also to promote the fight against climate change,” Rosberg said in a statement.

The tournament, which is currently scheduled to run for five races, already has nine sure starters, with races scheduled to take place in West Africa, the Brazilian rainforest, Greenland, Saudi Arabia and Nepal. The teams consist of a female and a male pilot.
