For the last 25 years, the biggest ever F1 competitor died

Twenty-five years ago, on May 1, 1994, the Imolai race suffered a fatal accident on Brazil's Ayrton Senna, one of the best Formula 1 pilots of all time.

Ayrton Senna da Silva was born on March 21, 1960 in a wealthy Brazilian family in Sao Paulo. His father encouraged him to go karting for the first time at four years of age, his first race, at the age of thirteen, with the number 1, and he was also the first to finish his goal. In 1977 he won the South American Go-kart Championship, then in 1979 and 1980 he became a Silver Medal.

He married in 1981 and moved to Europe to join the Formula Ford 1600 race in the UK. The following year he won the British and European Formula Ford 2000 championships and won the British Formula 3 Championship in 1983 and won the Macau Grand Prix.

In the top category, Formula 1, on March 25, 1984, he introduced himself as a competitor to Toleman. He had already scored a score in his second tournament and could stand up to the podium three times in the season. It is no wonder that next year he competed at Lotus, where he won six races in three years, his first triumph on April 21, 1985 in Estoril. In 1988 he contracted to McLaren, where he became a teammate of the double world champion, Frenchman Alain Prost. Then began their two legendary rivalry, which eventually ended up not talking to each other, except for the officially required occasions.

He won the 1988 World Championship, but in 1989 he became second behind Prost, and then in 1990 and 1991 he was again in the lead. In 1990, after the start of the Suzuk race, he went down to the French before him, both lost, Senna became the world champion. He subsequently admitted that he had deliberately caused the accident. In 1992, he was the fourth in a weaker car, and in 1993, McLaren, with traction control, was again a chance, but finally finished second behind Prost.

For the 1994 season, he turned to Williams, which became dominant at that time, but his season began badly. The first two grand prizes went from the edge, but fell out, followed by the last race of his life, the San Marino Grand Prix. The race weekend started with ominous signs: in the first free practice session, Brazilian Rubens Barrichello fell to the wall with full gas, but survived the accident, the next day the rookie Austrian Roland Ratzenberger lost control of his 300 km / h speeding vehicle and died in hospital.

The 14th San Marino Grand Prix was launched on May 1, 1994. In the seventh round, Senna, driving at a speed of 310 kilometers, slid off the track in the Tamburello bend, straight ahead, and crashed into a non-shielded concrete wall. The competitor in an almost completely destroyed car showed no sign of life, and in the next few minutes, hundreds of millions of television viewers looked astonished as rescuers tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate and then taken to a hospital by helicopter. Here he managed to restart his heart, but he was declared dead at 18:00 and 40 minutes, the time of the collision at the time of the collision, 14 hours 17 minutes. One and a half million people took part in a Brazilian funeral worthy of the Head of State and ordered a three-day national mourning. (For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that the race was stopped one and a half minutes after the accident, but then it was restarted, the first one was won by world champion Michael Schumacher that year.)

Due to the accident, he later went to the Williams team leaders and track operators, but in 1997 they were all released. According to the verdict, the rudder was broken before the accident, so Senna, in an uncontrolled car, could do nothing to avoid the collision. His death was caused by the three front-mounted head-lashes, which were caused by the collision, and were caused by fractures of the head and skull, which resulted in strokes and edema. The liability of Patrick Head, who designed the car, was ruled by an Italian court in 2007, but no penalty was imposed because the case had expired by then.

After the tragedy in Formula 1, security regulations were tightened for Senna as a pilot. The tracks were rebuilt, racing cars were redesigned, the HANS system protecting the neck and the head was introduced, which meant that the racing circus had not lost his life for more than twenty years, with the French Jules Bianchi injured at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix and later death. the series.

Ayrton Senna was a genius and tyrant, a benevolent and modest man, but he was also challenging to behave on the pitch because of his extraordinary victory. He was the fastest racer in Formula 1 tournament history, 65 times faster in qualifying training in 161 races, 22 more in the first row. He drove a total of 13,645 km in the races and 982 laps. Only Michael Schumacher was able to overcome his record of training sessions twelve years later. Senna won six victories at Monte Carlo, and to this day, five successive races of this race, between 1989 and 1993, are still a record.

For the thirty-four-year-old legend of car sports, many statues and monuments were erected, one on the Imola track, at the scene of the fatal accident. One of the greatest Formula One riders of all time had millions of people in their role models, and many books, films, and even songs were born about their lives. He is a national hero in his home country, with several streets, highways, tunnels and spaces bearing his name, the Brazilian national football team commended his 1994 World Cup victory.
