Ferrari betli, Red Bull success, Verstappen took everything

Defending world champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull's Dutch driver won Sunday's Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and took the overall lead after first-placed Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc of Monaco was eliminated by a technical fault.

At the start, Leclerc, who started from pole position, kept the first place against Verstappen in a great fight, while Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari), who started from third place, had a poor start, both of them passed him and fell back to fifth. Meanwhile, in the fourth corner, Kevin Magnussen (Haas) collided with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who had a flat tire, so he slid back to the end of the field and had to drive to the pits for a tire change.

In the fifth lap, Leclerc, Verstappen, and Russell raced in the order of the podium positions, but four laps later, Verstappen slipped out, increasing Leclerc's lead to almost 10 seconds. Russell raced in second, Pérez in third, and Verstappen was able to return to the track behind them.

After a short wait, Verstappen overtook Pérez and started chasing Russell, and then both of them drove into the pits for fresh tires at the same time, on the 14th lap. Pérez got new tires on lap 18 and Leclerc on lap 22, and the Monaco driver easily maintained his lead. Russell and Verstappen raced behind him, and although the defending Dutch World Cup champion was faster, he was still unable to overtake his British rival at the finish line, as he had a problem opening the adjustable rear wing.

Leclerc's racing car suddenly slowed down on the 27th lap, due to a technical fault, the Monaco driver had to give up the race from the front. Verstappen drove into the pits for new tires, and Russell, who had taken over the lead, was attacked by Pérez and confidently overtook him two laps later.

Russell was called by Mercedes for a tire change on the 37th lap, so Verstappen took over the second place from the Briton and then took the lead after Pérez also went to the pits and got fresh tires. Red Bull timed Verstappen's last tire change for the 45th lap, Pérez took the lead again, Verstappen was second because he returned to the field in front of Russell.

At the start of the heat, Verstappen easily took the lead from Pérez on the fresher tires and eventually triumphed confidently.

Behind the defending Dutch World Cup champion, his teammate Sergio Pérez from Mexico came in second, while British George Russell, who is racing brilliantly with Mercedes, was third. This is Verstappen's fourth F1 race victory of the year and 24th of his career. With his current success, he is six points ahead of Leclerc in the World Cup points race. Sainz was fourth and Hamilton fifth among the competitors who were in a difficult position after the start.
