The 2021 Dakar Rally begins with a Jewish prologue on Saturday, during which representatives of several categories will compete in Saudi Arabia in another 12 special stages until January 15 in the world's most difficult off-road race.
There will also be Hungarians in the field. Balázs Szalay and László Bunkoczi will start in the colors of the Opel Dakar Team among the drivers with an Opel Grandland X, while the truck drivers will also include the trio Károly Fazekas, Péter Horn, Péter Csákány with a Scania. Zsolt Darázsi, supplemented by the Thierry Pacquelet and Geoffrey Thalgott, a French navigator-pair, will start the truck race with a MAN.
According to the official website of the Dakar Rally, the route has been completely renewed compared to last year’s race, with the field, including the prologue, having to cover a total of 7,658 kilometers before reaching the finish line in Jeddah on 15 January.
The only rest day of the race will be on January 9, and the longest special stage will be held on January 14, one day before the finish, during which the participants will have to cover 511 kilometers.
Defending champion Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz will start with the factory Mini team race car, but 13-time Dakar winner Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini) and nine-time rally world champion Sébastien Loeb (Mini) will also be in the field. . Defender Ricky Brabec, who became the first American Dakar winner in January 2020, will also take part in the race for motorcyclists. In the field of two-wheelers, Australian Toby Price, who triumphed in 2016 and 2019, will also start.
