Italian Mareczko won the second leg of the Tour de Hongrie, which was also interspersed with a fall. To the delight of the Hungarian fans, András Szatmáry can expect to continue from the third place in the complex.
The Italian Jakub Mareczko won the second stage of the Tour de Hongrie road cycling circuit between Debrecen and Hajdúszoboszló on Sunday. The fallen Jon Aberasturi kept the yellow jersey, while András Szatmáry - specified by the official result list - was third in the composite.
After Saturday's opening stage, Dina Márton, Valter Attila, Péter Kusztor and András Szatmáry were both ten years behind the leading Spanish riders due to the credits.
114 people in the Cívis town took part in the Sunday stage: the Esztergom stage was not completed by Dina Dániel and Zsolt Istlstekker from the Hungarian national team, Zsombor Wermeser and Károly Eduárd from Székely from Team Miercurea Ciuc. Kamil Malecki from Poland, who had fallen in the finish line in Esztergom, was released from the hospital, his collarbone did not break, contrary to the first assumptions, and he took the start in Debrecen, but eventually gave up the race after about sixty kilometers.
At the 158 kilometers to Hajdúszoboszló, a level difference of 565 meters awaited the field, Erik Fetter, who was recovering after his training accident, said at the request of MTI: he expects a field runner. A similar view was taken by Karl Ádám, who is the captain of the Hungarian national team on the Tour de Hongrie, he said: in case of high winds a high pace is expected, and in case of low winds they will let go of an escape and then try to catch the sprinters so they can fight for success. He betrayed, for him too, the stage victory is the goal.
The start took place in 33 degrees, bypassing Hajdúböszörmény and Balmazújváros, the cyclists returned to Debrecen to head to Hajdúszoboszló after one lap. During the stage, he did not expect a mountain hair, but two speed boats, but he waited for the cyclists.
In the great heat, a five-person escape was formed early, which the Hungarian national team Szatmáry was able to catch up with, and six gained a five-and-a-half-minute, roughly four-kilometer advantage. However, since four of them were ten seconds behind the lead in the composite, the field did not allow them to "get home." Szatmáry won her first speed race in Debrecen, and the second was second in Balmazújváros, and thanks to time credits, she was wearing the yellow jersey virtually for a while. Forty-four kilometers before the finish, the trains were ordered to stop by a train, but in the end, as expected, the advantage of the eventual breakup ran out, only the Spanish Arturo Gravalos Lopez (Kometa-Xstra) stood ahead, but in the end he was overtaken ten kilometers before the finish. This time he decided to field hair in the spa town, the Italian Mareczko proved to be the fastest in the sprint ahead of his compatriots Matteo Moschetti and Luca Pacioni. As the best Hungarian, Karl Ádám was 14th on the stage.
Mareczko revealed that throughout the section they focused on a good position in the hair, and his team helped a lot in this.
"I was also lucky in the fall to be in the right place. I haven't been able to win in a long time, so today is a great day for me," said the sprinter, who has already started in four Giro d'Italia.
Before the bend to the finish line, several fell, including Aberasturi in the yellow jersey. Competition director László Szilasi informed MTI that some competitors had been taken to hospital for a check-up, but no serious injuries had occurred.
Szatmáry, who took the third place in the complex and took over the best Hungarian jersey, told MTI: It was planned with Zsolt Dér, federal captain, that Zsombor Palumby or he would escape, but he missed it.
Recalling the fall in his hair, he explained, 800 meters before the finish, someone had fallen in a "standard field drive scramble," the cordon had also flown into the track, and he had failed to stop, and had fallen under a "big pile of people." He hit his left wrist, got away with bruises, but it also left its mark on the race to continue. He revealed that he wants to regenerate in the next stage, but in the fourth stage he may try to escape again. He sees the acquisition of the jersey as a bonus, keeping it can only be on the flat sections for the goal.
