Valter’s Attila Valter, Thibaut Pinot, will skip the Tour de France this year and focus on the Italian road cycling circuit, the Giro d’Italia.
Groupama-FDJ’s 30-year-old French biker has started eight times in his home country’s three-week race, which he was forced to give up four times as a result of his bad luck, his best result being a complex third place. Girón - whose route this year is not yet known - started twice, in 2017 and 2018 and was in fourth position at its best.
“I think it’s time to get back to Giro,” Pinot said after Tuesday’s team presentation. He added that he plans to return to the Tour next year.
Groupama-FDJ will help Touron Arnaud Demare, who finished last year with 14 wins.
It is not yet known which Tour de Hongrie winner, last year’s Giro participant Valter, will start at three weeks. The Hungarian cyclist will start the season at the Valencia circuit in early February.
