Babos Tímea and Kristina Mladenovic defended their titles in the women’s doubles tournament at the French Open, as they defeated the American duo Alexa Guarachi, Desirae Krawczyk of Chile, 6: 4, 7: 5 in Sunday’s final.
The Hungarian-French double, who finished in the second place, started with 2: 0, but the opponent caught up, then when the left-handed Krawczyk served, the defending champion missed two more set balls, but at 5: 4 Babos outsourced the game. The sequel brought a nervous game, plenty of twists and five breaks to 5: 4, at which point Babos shivered as a dispenser, but Mladenovic cleared the chips and closed the meeting, which lasted 1 hour 33 minutes.
Tímea Babos, 27, reaped her 24th tournament victory in doubles, and this is her fourth Grand Slam triumph. The Hungarian-French duo received a total of 319,652 euros (113 million forints) for their success.
