Rafael Nadal, the 21-time Grand Slam tournament winner, made it to the finals of the $ 1.7 million (535 million) men's hardcover tennis tournament in Acapulco.
The Spanish player met Danyiil Medvedev in the rematch of the Australian Open finals in Friday's semifinals, and while Nadal triumphed from double-headed disadvantage, this time he was relatively easy, two hours ahead of his Russian rival leading the world rankings from Monday.
"Every match is different, it's also different from the previous one. This time the second game was very exciting and I made a few mistakes," said Nadal, who won his 14th match this year without a loss. He will compete for the fourth title of 35-year-old Spanish excellence in the finals, winning in Acapulco in 2005, 2013 and 2020.
Medvedev, however, put it this way: he did not play well.
"Throughout the match, I didn't perform the way I would play against an opponent like Rafa," Medvedev said, adding that this time he was out of energy.
On the other branch, British Cameron Norrie also outperformed the Greek Stefan Cicipast in two games.
Results, semi-final:
Nadal (Spanish, 4th) - Medvedev (Russian, 1st) 6: 3, 6: 3
Norrie (British, 6) - Cicipas (Greek, 3) 6: 4, 6: 4
