Another veteran heavyweight ex-boxing world champion has emerged in the person of Evander Holyfield: the 58-year-old American has challenged his compatriot, who also reactivated himself this year, 54-year-old Mike Tyson, to fight for the third time in the ring.
Holyfield signed up after the last match of 2005, Tyson, once again entered the grip at the end of last week and ended in a showdown with 51-year-old 51-year-old former champion Roy Jones Jr., according to the MMA Fighting portal.
"There are no more excuses. This fight must be for our heritage. Mike, you said you were ready to fight me. Sign the contract and enter the ring, the world is waiting, I am ready," the website quoted Holyfield as saying.
The former classic boxer also wanted to prove with a video uploaded to his Instagram page at the end of May that he was serious about returning to the ring, noting that he was determined to renew his boxing career. In the middle of their careers, he and Tyson met twice in the clamp, both clashes for a World Cup title. In 1996, Holyfield won a rash, and in their 1997 match, they knocked Tyson down as he bit into his rival’s ears in the heat of battle.
As a pro, Holyfield won 44 matches, including 29 knockouts, and was down ten times with two draws. Tyson, whose match against Jones is not counted in his professional balance, has won 50 (44 with KO) and defeated six times.
