After the parade competition, Bálint Kopasz won a gold medal and Ádám Varga won a silver medal in a kayak at some 1000 meters at the Tokyo Olympics.
In Tuesday's final, world and European champion defending champion Kopasz led and won a superior victory for most of the distance, and five-ring rookie Varga grabbed second place with a huge hair after a tight finish.
In this issue, the Hungarians were last able to enjoy the victory at the 1968 games in Mexico City through Mihály Hesz, but they also won a medal last time in 1976, when Géza Csapó was second.
At the last Olympics in 1996, in Atlanta, two Hungarians took the podium in a competition, then Norbert Rózsa and Károly Güttler were in the first two places in the 200-meter breaststroke.
