Due to a positive doping test, Sammy Kiprop Kitwara, who was a gold medalist and a bronze medalist in the 2010 Half Marathon World Championship, was banned for 16 months.
In March, a Kenyan athlete gave a positive sample after the Seoul Marathon, traces of terbutaline contained in his asthma medication. He finished seventh in the South Korean capital with a time of 2:09:52. The 33-year-old athlete accepted the penalty.
Kitwara's best result was being second in the Chicago Marathon in 2014 and one year later in the classic race in Valencia.
