Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the 2021 Alpine Ski World Cup may be postponed by one year

The 2021 World Alpine Ski Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo could take place a year later than planned.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) will ask the International Federation (FIS) to host the event due to the coronavirus epidemic in March 2022, Giovanni Malago, head of CONI, told RAI 2 on Sunday night.

The competition is scheduled to take place between February 7 and 21 next year. However, according to Malago, postponement would be the best solution due to the impact of the pandemic, the still uncertain resumption of sporting events.

If the date is indeed changed, the match will only be held after the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Together with Milan, Cortina will host the 2026 Winter Games.
