Novak Djokovic secured his 900th win in his career, which was also his success at this year's Australian Open. The Serb, who came to Melbourne as the world leader, beat his German opponent in four sets.
The 32-year-old 16-time Grand Slam winner Serbian, who had seven first-place finishes at the Australian Open, outperformed Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany in 2 hours 19 minutes.
It was Djokovic's 900th victory in singles since 2003 - a milestone previously only achieved by Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, Rafael Nadal and Guillermo Vilas.
In the women's semifinals here in 2013, the US Open winner Sloane Stephens in 2017 led in vain to 6: 2, 5: 4 against China's Chang Suaj, and was eventually forced to bid farewell to the opening round.
As a result, Monday's program ended in Melbourne Park, with the interruption of matches due to the outfield being postponed to Tuesday.
