He stands by Novak Djokovic under his coach, Goran Ivanisevic, and his father, Srdjan Djokovic. The Serbian world's first tennis player has received a lot of criticism in recent days for the fact that after the inviting Adria Tour race in Zadar, which he brought to life, it turned out that many, including him, had a positive coronavirus test.
Former Wimbledon champion Ivanisevic said in the New York Times Wednesday that it is uncertain whether Grigor Dimitrov became infected during the series. The Bulgarian player traveled from Los Angeles to Serbia and then from there to his homeland before arriving in Zadar, Croatia last week. There, in line with the recommendation of local health authorities, it was not necessary to test asymptomatic tennis players.
"He arrived on Wednesday and all he said was that his elbow hurt." Ivanisevic recalled what had happened.
Dimitrov first complained on Friday that he was not feeling well, he still stood up for Saturday's first game - against Croatian Borna Coric, who later also produced a positive virus test - but had already canceled his second meeting. He then returned to Monaco, Ivanisevic continued.
Novak Djokovic's father put it more clearly: he thought Dimitrov was the cause of the positive cases.
"Dimitrov has done a great deal of damage to our family," Srdjan Djokovic told the Serbian newspaper Kurir. "Why did what happened? Because he probably got sick already, what do I know about how.
The series and its organizers have received a lot of criticism for not complying with hygiene standards, and a video has been released to see players celebrating carefree together.
In addition to Djokovicon, Dimitrov and Corico, Viktor Troicki from Serbia caught the virus, but Djokovic and Dimitrov's coaches Marko Paniki and Christian Groh also provided a positive pattern.
Upon hearing the news, the organizers announced on Tuesday afternoon that no further events of the Adria Tour will be held. After the matches in Belgrade and Zadar, the field would have entered the field in Banja Luka and Sarajevo as well, but these stations were canceled.
