The French round has to start a week earlier because of the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics next summer, as the most prestigious match would have collided with the time of the five-ring men’s field competition. Thus, instead of July 2, the French circuit will start on June 26, and then on July 18, instead of July 25, the participants will be able to start without any problems in the strength test due on July 24 in the Japanese capital.
The French organizers have made this request to Copenhagen before, as the Tour would start there next year, but it is a serious organizational problem for the Danes to host an eighth final in the Danish capital on 28 June at the European Football Championship, which has also been postponed to 2021.
According to the UCI’s new race calendar, the Vuelta will also be held a week earlier than usual, so the three-week race in Spain will take place between 14 August and 5 September. The reason given by the international federation is that this will allow cyclists to be better prepared for the European Championships due on the second weekend in September.
The 2021 program of the World Tour Series, which includes the most prestigious events, did not include the California and Turkish rounds, as well as the one-day fight in London.
The UCI also announced on Tuesday that a one-day competition from the WT series will not be held in Quebec, Montreal and Hamburg this year due to the coronavirus epidemic.
