Athletics World Championships 2023 - The Presidency launched a serious campaign

Miklós Gyulai, president of the Hungarian Athletic Association and Márton Gyulai, managing director of the World Championship competition, said that the planned location, on the northern part of Csepeli Island, is currently not accessible to the public. It is a former factory site where contaminated material gets into the river and is used as a landfill.

Mayor Gergely Christmas stated that new investments in Budapest should increase green space, be sustainable and accessible to the community. The planned athletic center meets all three conditions - said Miklós Gyulai. He indicated that on the day following his election, a letter had been written to the new mayor of Budapest, requesting a date to present their ideas - no reply had been received yet.

Márton Gyulai stressed that after the World Cup, some of the stands would be demolished, and 95 trees would be placed on the upper leg, including a roller skating rink and a community record. Eight hectares of green space can be created by settling the Danube.

The World Championship's expected impact highlighted that, according to a survey, the economic benefits of the London World Cup 2017 were $ 60 billion and that 81 percent of the participants had returned to the English capital within two years. He quoted Sebastian Coe, president of the International Athletic Association (IAAF), who says there are two world sports, one of which is athletics. This year's Doha World Championships attracted competitors from 210 countries and attracted one billion TV viewers.

Miklós Gyulai added that athletics is the fifth most successful sport in Hungary, the number of certified athletes has multiplied in recent years, and more than 120,000 children participate in athletics competitions at the Student Olympics, while the sport has no home. He pointed out that if Budapest could not settle for the World Cup 2023, it would have to pay billions of dollars in damages, and the retreat would delay the sport for several years.

Gergely Christmas on Thursday, after attending a government meeting, announced the construction of the Csepel Island Athletic Stadium and the World Athletics Championships: he asked the government to provide more information on the investment and the cabinet to wait for its meeting in November. He added that their basic approach was not supportive, but that it was "important to balance all the circumstances" with such a weighted investment.
