Budapest and Birmingham are bidding to host the 2026 European Athletics Championships.
"We have two excellent candidates for the 2026 continental championship, both organizing committees have great experience in organizing outdoor events and both cities have great stadiums, either of them would be a great host," said Dobromir Karamarinov, EAA president, in the European Association (EAA) newsletter on Monday.
Birmingham will host the Commonwealth Games this year, and the Hungarian capital will host the World Championships next year in the new athletics stadium under construction. After 1966 and 1998, Budapest could now host a continental tournament for the third time.
In August of this year, the European Championship will take place in Munich as part of the multisport European Championship, and in two years Rome will be the host.
The EAA council will decide on the 2026 European Championship venue this November.
