The Netherlands beat Hungary 6-1 on Tuesday in the last round of the group stage of the Hungarian-Slovenian U21 European Football Championship in Székesfehérvár, thus advancing to the straight relegation stage as a group winner.
The first ten minutes of the meeting went uneventful, then the teams spun up and created dangerous situations in front of both gates. After a quarter of an hour, the Netherlands, which was struggling to advance, prevailed, mainly because the Hungarian team, which finished the tournament after the group round, could not start with an aggressive attack. A series of Dutch situations scored before the break: Dani de Wit, who was leaving among the defenders, took advantage of the ziccer.
After the turn, the Orange Fields immediately increased their lead with a penalty from Myron Boadu and then just under ten minutes with Cody Gakpo's bomb into three. Bolla Bendegúz scored from the penalty spot, but he didn't have to wait long for the fourth Dutch goal, again Gakpo was successful. Sven Botman and Brian Brobbey also scored in the hair, resulting in a 6-1 final score.
At the online press conference after the meeting, federal coach Zoltán Gera said that they suffered a painful defeat because they got out of a better team, but the six goals they scored were many. He added: they fell apart at the end, his players made a lot of mistakes, which the opponent relentlessly took advantage of.
"Overall, the players and the coaching staff also had a lot of experience. The attitude of the players was okay all along, I didn't like the end of the last match alone," the expert assessed the overall performance of his team, who said that his future will then be decided.
The team of Zoltán Gera closed the tournament without a point, with two kicks and eleven goals. In addition to the Dutch, the German team, which played a goal-free draw with the Romanians in the last round, advanced from the four.
