At the forefront of the English football league, 18 corona virus tests have yielded positive results, a record number this week in terms of weekly testing.
The last inspection took place between December 21 and 27, with 1,479 tests performed between players and staff members.
In the Premier League, a total of 131 tests were positive during the season - during 17 environmental tests. The names and clubs of the current 18 individuals were not made public, but it was indicated that they had all been quarantined for ten days.
Manchester City also reported several infections on Monday, so their match against Everton was postponed. This was only the second time in the current PL season that a Newcastle United-Aston Villa clash had been missed earlier due to the high number of infected.
Arsenal have said their Brazilian defender Gabriel is also coronavirus and will certainly not be deployed in the team’s next two matches.
The UK has so far reported 2.3 million people infected and 71,000 dead in connection with the pandemic.
