Dominik Szoboszlai will be the team captain of the Hungarian national football team in the friendly match in Luxembourg on Thursday.
The Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) announced the decision on its Twitter page, illustrating it with a picture showing Szoboszlai's number 10 jersey and the captain's armband.
Based on the Wednesday press conference of national team captain Marco Rossi, the RB Leipzig midfielder received the captain's armband not only for this match, but permanently. The Italian manager explained about the selection process a day earlier that the situation was discussed not only with the members of the staff, but also with the key players, but on Wednesday he did not reveal the identity of the new team captain because the squad had not yet been informed of the decision.
The previous team captain of the national team, Ádám Szalai, retired from the national team in September, but his decision was already indicative when he handed over the captain's armband to Szoboszlai in his penultimate appearance, when he was replaced in the Nations League meeting where Germany won 1-0 as a guest.
The match, which will take place in the brand new stadium of the capital of Luxembourg, completed last summer, will start on Thursday at 20:00 at the whistle of the Belgian Jonathan Lardot. The meeting will be broadcast live by M4 Sport.
On Sunday, the Hungarian national team will host the Greek team in the Puskás Arena in its last match of the year, in which Balázs Dzudzsák will play for the last time. With his 109th appearance, he will overtake Gábor Király to become the only top scorer for the national team. At that meeting, the footballer from Debrecen will wear the team captain's armband.
