The Italian national team was the first to make it to the finals at the European Football Championship, partly hosted in Budapest, after beating the Spanish team, also co-host, at the Wembley Stadium in London, 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out in the first semi-final on Tuesday after 1-1.
The Spaniards controlled for most of the match, but despite their possession of the ball, at the end of a counter, the Italians took the lead in the second half. Luis Enrique's team then increased the pressure and equalized in his hair, but failed to reverse. In the overtime, too, the Spaniards did more for the victory, but in the end there was a penalty shootout in which the Italians targeted more precisely.
In the second semi-final on Wednesday, also at Wembley Stadium, the host English will meet the Danes.
