The Japanese Football League has postponed seven cup meetings due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic and plans to postpone all domestic football matches by mid-March.
In the new type of coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, Central China, the number of people infected in China has risen to 77,658, with 2,663 lost their lives in the mainland, while the number of those healed has risen to over 27,000. In Japan, 870 cases have been registered and there are four dead so far.
According to the league, the postponement of Wednesday's matches is part of the measures to stop the virus.
"The AJ League is doing its best to prevent the infection and prevent it from spreading," the organization said in a statement.
Due to the spread of the epidemic, several sports events have been postponed or moved to other locations in Japan in recent weeks. The first and second grade football championships, however, went off as planned over the weekend, but some clubs asked fans to come in and wear disinfectants at stadiums.
As for the summer Tokyo Olympics, Kato Kacunobu, the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, said Tuesday that it was still too early to talk about a possible postponement. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently informed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that there is no need to draw up a crisis plan for the deletion or relocation of toys.
