According to Uli Hoeness, honorary club president of German football champion Bayern Munich, the team now has a good chance of tripling, i.e. winning the German Cup and the Champions League in addition to Bundesliga gold.
“If players can keep the current form, we can really win everything,” Hoeness, 68, said in an interview with Bavarian television.
The sports manager praised head coach Hansi Flick and the footballers because, as he said, “in these difficult times” it is not easy to maintain a level of motivation. Hoeness suggested that the tournament was first interrupted due to the coronavirus epidemic, and then the teams had to play the remaining matches behind closed gates.
Bayern has managed to triple so far once, in 2013, under the direction of Jupp Heynckes, for which a cup final against Bayer Leverkusen awaits on Saturday night.
The BL, in which the Bavarians are still facing the eighth final fight against Chelsea, will be continued in August by the remaining bands as part of a Lisbon tournament. Flick’s students won 3-0 in London in the first match - even before the pandemic broke out - so they have a good chance of fighting for the quarter-finals.
