At a meeting of FC Barcelona’s election committee on Thursday, it was decided that three of the four presidential candidates would remain in official competition.
The Catalan club reported on its website that Emili Rousaud had withdrawn from the nomination during the evaluation of the support votes, including Víctor Font (4713/4431) and Joan Laporta (10,272 supporters shown / 9625 valid supporters) who had already run the club between 2003 and 2010. Toni Freixa (2822/2634) remained in the race.
Candidates can begin their official campaign from Friday, which runs until next Sunday’s election.
Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned at the end of October, and since then the head of the economics committee, Carles Tusquets, has been running the club on a temporary basis. When the previous president left, seven more thought it would be a race three months later to run for office.
