The Boston Celtics, who are in the North American Basketball League (NBA), will retire Kevin Garnett, who played in the club's most recent league title, next season.
The Olympic champion was a star player from 2007 to 2014 in the Celtics' colors and was able to celebrate a championship title in his first season and then went on to reach the final of the 2009-2010 season. Both finals were fought by the ancient rival Los Angeles Lakers, winning the former to 4-2 and losing the latter to 4-3.
Garnett, who was a dreaded trio with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, was selected to the All-Star team five times during his six Boston seasons.
Jerseys No. 5 in 2016 will be the 23rd retired jersey in club history.
