The benchmark ESPN magazine conducted a poll among its experts on who is the best basketball player of all time. Michael Jordan topped the list, followed by LeBron James in second place. Perhaps surprisingly, Kobe Bryant, who lost his life in a recent tragic accident with five league titles, is only ninth.
Michael Jordan topped the ESPN Sports Television Experts Vote for the best in the 74-year history of the North American Professional Basketball League (NBA).
The vote, the final result of which was published on the ESPN website, was certainly won by Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to the championship six times. Chosen as the best basketball player of all time, the American star earned the Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) in all NBA Finals, became the MVP of the league regular season five times, and entered the All Star national team 14 times. It averaged 30.1 points per match, producing an average of 6.2 in rebounds and 5.3 in goal passes. He has won two Olympic gold medals as a member of the U.S. national team, the Dream Team.
Behind Jordan, LeBron James finished second - as the best of the players still active today - and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, one of the classic basketball players of the more distant past, finished in third place on the list of 74 names.
